(22 ago. 1893, West End, cerca de Long Beach, N.J., EE.UU. – 7 jun. 1967, Ciudad de Nueva York, N.Y.).

Cuentista y poeta estadounidense. Creció en el seno de una familia acomodada de la Ciudad de Nueva York. Trabajó como crítica de teatro para Vanity Fair y escribió reseñas de libros para The New Yorker (1927–33). Entre sus libros de poesía se cuentan Enough Rope [Suficiente cuerda] (1926) y Death and Taxes [La muerte y los impuestos] (1931). Sus cuentos fueron publicados en Laments for the Living [Lamentos por los vivos] (1930) y After Such Pleasures [Tras tales placeres] (1933). También trabajó como guionista de cine, como reportera en la guerra civil española y colaboró en diversas obras dramáticas. Fue miembro de la Algonquin Round Table [Mesa redonda del Hotel Algonquin], y se la recuerda principalmente por la agudeza de su ingenio.
